9. May Day situation. Fatality Before setting out, the instructor must have ascertained the weather and sea

state forecast for the area, tidal currents and times, and any hazards pertinent.

Safety equipment carried onboard to include:

 First aid kit.

 Anchor, chain and warp.

 Paddles.

 Tow lines.

 VHF radio and GPS.

 Charts and compass.

 Distress flares – orange smoke and pin point red.

 Spare fuel appropriate to journey with emergency reserve.

 Tool kit.

 Thermal protective aids.

 Mobile phone.
