1. Drowning (including entrapment in

craft)

Fatality Buoyancy aid to be worn. Risk disclosure in safety brief.

Dry capsize drill covered in safety brief

In Kayaks, instructor to ensure back rest used correctly (not as seat belt)

Instructor to boat ratios must not be exceeded.

 Kayaking 1:10 (+ 2 competent paddlers at instructor’s discretion)

 Canoeing 1:6

 SUP boarding: 1:10

Remote Mod

2. Hypothermia Major injury Warm windproof clothing to be worn. Wetsuit / dry suit worn for SUP boarding

and capsize training in very cold water. Dry clothes and towel available. Warm

drinks available. Instructor to monitor well being of participants.

3. Head Injury Major injury Helmet to be worn.

(Exceptions to this are Bell boating and SUP boarding; touring/river sessions

where games are not played and on Have a go days.)
